Amber Marie Bently presented her collection of twenty-three one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by the mystery and romance of the renowned exhibition, “Tutankhamen and The Golden Age of the Pharaohs” that opened today at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.

The de Young’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Susannah Stringam, invited Ms. Bently to design the collection. “As one of San Francisco’s most unique artisans, Amber was the perfect choice. Not only does her sense of history and extensive travels infuse her work, but like the treasures from the golden age of Egyptian artistry, her work has timeless and enduring qualities.”

Inspired by ancient Egyptian jewelry techniques, Ms. Bently’s collection features King Tutankhamen’s iconic scarab motif and a silver wire wrapping jewelry technique from the later era of Cleopatra. The necklaces are hand crafted from brown Soo Chow jade, Russian green jade and blue lapis. Each piece is designed to be worn long, below the breast, and features exquisite silver wire wrapping details.

The Cove

Billed as “an intelligent action/adventure/Ocean’s-Eleven-like horror film wrapped around a tale of redemption and ultimate revenge,” The Cove is a documentary that follows an elite reconnaissance team to the picturesque fishing village of Taiji, Japan.

It is here the world’s largest annual dolphin kill takes place in a hidden bay that is watched over by armed guards and obscured behind blue tarpaulins. What occurs beyond the patrols and scrims is one of Japan’s darkest secrets: pods of dolphins are herded into the bay, where they are trapped behind a wall of nets and butchered by whalers with spears and knives.

The goal of The Cove is to stop these barbaric acts by exposing them to the world. The filmmakers risk everything to capture this footage, and we vividly feel the danger they’re in – but as with any groundbreaking film that transcends its genre, there are elements humor, and the touching narrative of one man’s personal redemption.

This a documentary that I believe everyone should see, and at Amber Marie Bently Jewelry we hope to witness the end of the Dolphin Killings. The Cove captures the power of filmmakers so committed to an important cause that they’ll stake their lives on it.

It looks like one of SFluxe’s favorite people, jewelry designer Amber Marie Bently, is taking the city by storm this week, in a flurry of showings just in time for the holidays.

On Sunday she showcased at “Artwear in the Galleries” located at 49 Geary in San Francisco’s Steven Writz Gallery. It was a really cool event, where art fans from all over had the opportunity to shop for wearable art ( jewelry, clothing, and accessories) in some of San Francisco’s most prestigious galleries. Proceeds benefited the textile department of the De Young Museum Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.

Today I catch up with jeweler Amber Marie Bently, who is launching her new one-of-a-kind collection at a party this Thursday (September 13th.)

She and husband Christ Bently, founders of the Kamalaspa on Union Square, are flying the legendary actress Tippi Hedren in for the event, and are donating a portion of the jewelry sales from the evening to Tippi’s Roar Foundation. It’s definitely an event you don’t want to miss…
